Modern Industrialization

Modern Industrialization is the pack’s heavy multiblock tech tree, running from hand tools through steam power, electricity, and finally fusion. The single most important item is the MI Guidebook — the chapter repeatedly insists you read it when you’re lost. See Tech & Automation Mods for context.

Stage 1 — Hand & Steam

  1. Forge Hammer (and Iron Hammer) — blacksmith-style tools that let you triple ores by hand.
  2. Bronze Ingots → Bronze Compressor — build the compressor before the boiler to save many plates on hammering.
  3. Bronze Boiler + Steam — burns fuel to heat water into steam (send it water or the fuel is wasted). Steam machines accept inputs from any side; lock slots to fix an item/fluid type. Bronze machines run recipes up to 2 EU/t (1 mB steam = 1 EU), so a max-temp boiler powers ~4 machines.
  4. Core bronze machines: Macerator (recycle → dust), Mixer, Cutting Machine (uses lubricant), Furnace, Water Pump, plus Fluid/Item Pipes with hatches.
  5. Coke Oven (steam-powered multiblock) → Coke fuel → Steam Blast Furnace → Steel. Always carry a Wrench to view multiblock shapes.

Stage 2 — Steel & first electricity

  • Steel Upgrade your bronze machines. Build a Steam Quarry (consumes bronze drills to dig below bedrock for ores) — expensive, but one of your best investments; run several SBFs first.
  • Move off steam: Steam Turbine (LV) turns steam into electricity; Analog Circuit → Electronic Circuit; Assembler + Robot Arm automate machine parts; Polarizer, Wiremill, Electric Blast Furnace (Cupronickel/Kanthal coils), Distillery.

Stage 3 — Chemistry & oil

  • Chemical Reactor, Distillation Tower (adjustable height via screwdriver), Vacuum Freezer (cool hot ingots like stainless steel back to normal), Electrolyzer, Centrifuge, Heat Exchanger, Pressurizer (water↔HP water, steam↔HP steam).
  • Oil Drilling Rig — a huge multiblock pulling Crude Oil from under bedrock. Electric Quarry replaces the steam version.
  • Upgrades: Turbo, Advanced Machine Hull (MV), Advanced/Highly Advanced Upgrades, Processing Unit (“computer brain”).

Stage 4 — Endgame

  • Stainless Steel → Titanium → Iridium materials; Implosion Compressor (uses Industrial TNT), Blastproof Alloy Plate, Quantum Circuit, Quantum Upgrade (the strongest machine upgrade).
  • Fusion Reactor — the ultimate power source, fusing Deuterium/Tritium/Helium-3 into Helium Plasma, feeding a Plasma Turbine (100s× diesel EU/t).
  • Nuclear Reactor — a deep neutron-physics multiblock (fast vs. thermal neutrons, heat management via hatches). It cannot explode or emit radiation and only damages the items inside it, so experiment freely — the guide recommends testing designs in creative first.
  • UU-Matter via Singularity + Electrolyzer (“the fabric of the universe”).

Notable rewards & tips

  • Steel Packer / Unpacker automate combining and breaking down machine parts.
  • Gravichestplate — powered chestplate granting creative flight + fall protection (no other defense).
  • Tools: Steam Mining Drill, then Diesel Drill/Chainsaw/Jetpack.
  • Break machines with a pickaxe, not the wrench (wrench is for rotate/config).

Anticipated questions

  • Why is nothing happening in my boiler? No water — the boiler wastes fuel burning dry. Feed it water automatically with a Bronze Pump.
  • Bronze machine feels too slow. Bronze caps at 2 EU/t by design; upgrade to steel and then electric tiers.
  • Is the Nuclear Reactor dangerous to my base? No — it can’t explode or irradiate the world, only ruin the items inside if it overheats.
  • Do I need to understand fusion/nuclear math? No — the guidebook says to experiment with designs in creative until one works.
