Frostiful
By TheDeathlyCow — “A Frosty Vanilla+ Survival Experience,” and the most mechanically deep of the pack’s winter-flavor mods. Adds a full cold/freezing survival layer on top of vanilla, all currently running at shipped defaults (config/frostiful.json, no server tuning applied):
- Environmental cold: nights and cold/freezing biomes shift ambient temperature down (night −1, cold biome −1, freezing biome −3), wetness from rain or touching water increases freezing rate, and standing near light sources or fire provides passive warmth.
- Freezing mechanics: passive freezing is currently disabled by default (
doPassiveFreezing: false), as is ambient wind spawning — meaning the more punishing weather-hazard side of the mod isn’t actively harassing players in this world, though the underlying systems (icicles, frost damage, wind particles) are present and configurable. - Icicles: form during weather when light levels are low enough (max light 8, min skylight 11 to form), can grow more during rain/thunder, become unstable and fall, and can be thrown as weapons — a thrown icicle deals 1 base + 3 extra damage and applies a large freeze buildup.
- New hostile content: “Chillager” patrols (a frost-themed pillager variant) are enabled, Strays now carry Frost Arrows, and a “Frostologer” enemy type has its own heat-drain and passive-freezing combat kit — including an intolerance to heat (takes bonus damage/effects above a heat threshold).
- Combat items: an Ice Breaker weapon (base 3 damage + 1 per level), a Frost Wand (25-block max range, 120-tick cooldown, roots targets for 100 ticks), and Packed Snowballs that both freeze (500 units) and deal bonus damage to freeze-vulnerable enemy types.
- Netherite gear grants innate frost resistance (0.5), and gear can generate with Fur or Skate armor-trim upgrade templates.
Anticipated questions
Q: Will I freeze to death on this server?
A: Passive freezing is disabled by default (doPassiveFreezing: false), as is ambient wind spawning — so the harshest weather-hazard side isn’t actively harassing players, though cold biomes and nights still lower ambient temperature and wetness speeds freezing.
Q: How do I stay warm? A: Stand near light sources or fire for passive warmth; Netherite gear grants innate frost resistance, and gear can take Fur or Skate armor-trim upgrades.
Q: What new enemies does it add? A: “Chillager” frost-pillager patrols, Strays that carry Frost Arrows, and the Frostologer, which has a heat-drain/passive-freezing combat kit but takes bonus damage above a heat threshold. See Progression & Level Caps for threat context.
Q: What are the icicles for? A: They form during weather at low light, become unstable and fall, and can be thrown as a weapon (1 base + 3 extra damage plus a large freeze buildup).
