AppleSkin
AppleSkin (appleskin, v2.5.2, by squeek502) is a long-running, well-known QoL mod that adds food-related HUD information Minecraft normally hides: exact hunger/saturation values on food tooltips, a saturation overlay on the hunger bar, and a preview of exactly how much hunger/health a food item in hand would restore before eating it.
This server’s appleskin.json5 has essentially every overlay turned on: tooltip values shown automatically without needing to hold Shift (showFoodValuesInTooltipAlways = true), the saturation HUD overlay, the hunger/health-restore-preview overlays for both main-hand and off-hand food, a food-exhaustion progress bar underlay, vanilla icon-shake animation matching, and food debug info in the F3 screen — nothing is left at a partial/minimal config, meaning the pack wants full nutritional visibility surfaced by default rather than opt-in.

Anticipated questions
- What does this mod add? Food HUD info Minecraft normally hides: exact hunger/saturation values on tooltips, a saturation overlay on the hunger bar, and a preview of how much hunger/health a held food would restore before eating.
- Do I have to hold Shift to see food values? No —
showFoodValuesInTooltipAlways = true, so tooltip values show automatically without holding Shift. - Does the restore preview work for off-hand food too? Yes — the preview overlays are enabled for both main-hand and off-hand food.
- Is this a stripped-down config here? No — essentially every overlay is on (saturation HUD, exhaustion bar underlay, F3 debug food info), so the pack surfaces full nutritional info by default.
