Farming & Food
Food matters more here than in vanilla — cooked dishes give real stat buffs, not just hunger refill, so it’s worth doing early (see Getting Started). This note covers eating well and brewing drinks. Full mod list in Food, Farming & Cooking Mods.
Read your food — AppleSkin
AppleSkin is turned fully on here: food tooltips show exact hunger + saturation values automatically (no need to hold Shift), and holding a food previews exactly how much it’ll restore before you eat. Use it to compare dishes — a proper cooked meal beats raw ingredients by a wide margin.
Grow more — Croptopia + Farmer’s Delight crops
- Croptopia adds a huge range of crops and foods, giving farming real depth beyond wheat-and-carrots.
- Farmer’s Delight is the anchor of the whole category — it adds tomato, cabbage, onion, and rice, plus Rich Soil farmland that speeds growth. Six other mods in the pack are add-ons built on top of it (Chef’s, End’s, Expanded, Ocean’s Delight, Farmer’s Knives, Animal Feeding Trough).
Cook well — the Farmer’s Delight kitchen
Farmer’s Delight adds the cooking furniture that turns raw crops into buff food:
- Cooking Pot — multi-serving stews and soups, with a recipe-book UI. Your workhorse for hearty meals.
- Stove — passive cooking (replaces the furnace+campfire shuffle).
- Cutting Board — knife-based butchering/slicing of meats and crops (boosted by Fortune). Turns raw meat into cuts for composed dishes.
- Skillet and Basket round it out.
- Knives come in Flint → Iron → Golden → Diamond → Netherite tiers, extended further by the add-on mods.
From there you build sandwiches, wraps, rolls, pies, stews and soups from cuts (minced beef, chicken cuts, bacon, fish slices, mutton chops). On this server vanilla soups/stews are also configured to grant Farmer’s-Delight-style buffs, and villagers can trade FD crops.
Brew drinks — the Let’s Do series
Three “Let’s Do” mods add proper drink-crafting (all built on the shared [[[Let’s Do] API]]):
- Let’s Do: Brewery — Oktoberfest-themed beer & whiskey. Grow hops and barley, feed them into a Brewingstation (Wooden → Copper → Netherite tiers) with Silos for grain, and brew Wheat/Barley/Hops beers served in Beer Mugs, plus named whiskeys aged in Big Barrels. Also adds pretzels, sausage, pork knuckle and other tavern food, plus tavern furniture.
- Let’s Do: Vinery — grapes and wine.
- Let’s Do: HerbalBrews — tea.
Drinks are their own little progression: crops → brewing station → aged/served product. Great for a tavern build and for group play.
How to eat well — quick routine
- Turn your hunger read-out into a habit: check the AppleSkin tooltip and prefer high-saturation cooked dishes.
- Plant a Croptopia + Farmer’s Delight garden early; add Rich Soil for speed.
- Build a Cooking Pot and a Cutting Board — that’s 90% of good food.
- For drinks, pick a Let’s Do path (Brewery/Vinery/HerbalBrews) and grow its crop.
Anticipated questions
Does food do anything beyond filling the hunger bar here? Yes — cooked dishes give real stat buffs, and saturation (visible via AppleSkin) determines how long a meal lasts. It’s worth cooking properly early.
What’s the single most useful thing to build? A Farmer’s Delight Cooking Pot — multi-serving buff meals from cheap crops.
How do I make beer / wine / tea? Beer & whiskey via Let’s Do: Brewery (Brewingstation + hops/barley), wine via Let’s Do: Vinery (grapes), tea via Let’s Do: HerbalBrews. Each needs its own crop and station.
Can I sell or buy crops from villagers? Yes — Farmer’s Delight is configured so villagers trade FD crops (see Economy & Trading).
Is farming required to progress? Not strictly, but good food is a cheap, permanent combat advantage — under-eating in a combat-focused pack is a real handicap.
