Mythic Mounts

Mythic Mounts (v7.2) is the pack’s dedicated tamable-mount mod, and it’s entirely config-driven — every creature’s health, speed, attack, diet, taming items, and spawn conditions live in MythicMountsConfig.json, which this server has read directly to confirm the numbers below. Its roster splits cleanly into flyers, ground mounts, and two look-alikes that turn out not to fly at all.

Flying mounts. The Dragon is the rarest and most dangerous: 40 base health, hostile until tamed (only a 5% taming chance per attempt, using gold ingot, diamond, or emerald), a 9-slot inventory, and specialAbilitiesEnabled set true. It only spawns subterraneously, capped at just 1 per 256-chunk region with a mere 10% roll chance even then — making it the single hardest mount in the mod to find. The Griffon is the common alternative: 35 health, tamed peacefully with rabbit or mutton (no hostility flag), spawning at a generous 70% roll chance across mountainous biomes (windswept hills, windswept gravelly hills, windswept forest, snowy slopes, and jagged peaks). The Nether Bat (25 health) is Nether-exclusive, spawning only in Crimson and Warped Forests, hostile until tamed on porkchop. The Żar-ptak — Polish for “Firebird,” and its actual in-game display name, which is why it visually starts with “Ż” rather than “F” — is a rare village-adjacent spawn (20 health, only a 2% roll chance, capped at 5 per 256-chunk region) tamed exclusively with golden apples. The Giant Moth is the most fragile flyer at just 10 health, spawning only in Dark Forests and tamed with any flower item.

Look-alikes that don’t fly. The Courier Bird and Colelytra both read as flying candidates but aren’t: the Courier Bird’s own in-game lore states these tropical, parrot-like birds have “grown too hefty to fly” and instead sprint on powerful legs, making them popular messenger mounts; the Colelytra — a colorful beetle native to Mushroom Islands that lives peaceably alongside mooshrooms — has no flight mechanic mentioned anywhere in its lore or config.

Ground mounts. Rounding out the roster: Acencia (a leopard-like climbing cat of snowy forests, tamed on mutton/salmon), Archelon (a giant sea turtle of deep lukewarm oceans, tamed on cod/salmon, capped at 2 per 256-chunk region), Geckotoa/Giant Geckotoa (a subterranean riding lizard, capped at 1 per region), Riding Lizard (a smaller desert-dwelling lizard, hostile until tamed), Dire Wolf (old-growth forest predator, tamed on bone), and Nightmare (a hostile fire-steed of basalt deltas and soul sand valleys, only a 3% taming chance using bone, coal, or charcoal — notably, this pack’s Nightmare comes from Mythic Mounts, not from AdventureZ’s same-named mob, which this pack has deliberately disabled to avoid the overlap).

The Summoning Staff is the mod’s key utility item: crafted from 2 Feathers + an Ender Pearl on the top row, a Stick + Name Tag on the middle row, and a Stick + Bell on the bottom row. Right-click a tamed mount once to link the staff to it, then right-click again from anywhere to instantly warp that mount to the rider’s side — though per its own in-game description, the staff “will fail if the linked mount is too far away,” so it has a hard range limit rather than unlimited reach. One more universal quirk applies across the whole mod: flying mounts refuse to take off while leashed with a lead.

Anticipated questions

Q: What’s the rarest, hardest mount to get? A: The Dragon — hostile until tamed with only a 5% taming chance (gold ingot, diamond, or emerald), spawning only subterraneously at 1 per 256-chunk region with a 10% roll chance even then.

Q: What’s a good beginner flying mount? A: The Griffon — 35 health, tamed peacefully with rabbit or mutton, spawning at a generous 70% roll chance across mountainous biomes (windswept hills/gravelly hills/forest, snowy slopes, jagged peaks).

Q: How does the Summoning Staff work? A: Right-click a tamed mount once to link the staff to it, then right-click again to warp it to your side — but it “will fail if the linked mount is too far away,” so it has a hard range limit. Recipe: 2 Feathers + an Ender Pearl (top row), a Stick + Name Tag (middle), a Stick + Bell (bottom).

Q: Why won’t my flying mount take off? A: Flying mounts refuse to take off while leashed with a lead — remove the lead first.
