Better Nether

Better Nether (originally by paulevs, now maintained by quiqueck; mod id betternether, jar better-nether-9.0.10.jar, built on the shared BCLib library) is the Nether’s equivalent of Better End — a full worldgen overhaul replacing the vanilla nether-wastes-and-basalt-deltas monotony with 24 distinct biomes: Bone Reef and Sulfuric Bone Reef, Crimson Glowing Woods and Crimson Pinewood, Flooded Deltas, Gravel Desert, Magma Land, Nether Grasslands and Poor (Nether) Grasslands, Nether Jungle, Nether Mushroom Forest (plus its Edge variant), Nether Swampland and Nether Swampland Terraces, Old Fungiwoods, Old Swampland, Old/dead Upside Down Forest, Soul Plain, and Wart Forest (plus Edge). It also adds seven new mobs — the Firefly, Flying Pig, Hydrogen Jellyfish, Jungle Skeleton, Naga (with its own projectile), and wandering Skull — giving the Nether real fauna beyond piglins and ghasts. Like Better End, it ships achievement-style completion tracking (“Visit all BetterNether Biomes”) and per-biome/edge/sub-biome toggle options for server tuning.

Note on the jar naming: the modpack’s mods/ folder also contains a separate bwncr-fabric-1.20.1-3.17.2.jar, but its fabric.mod.json identifies it as “Bad Wither No Cookie Reloaded” (mod id bwncr) — an unrelated server-side sound-silencing utility (mutes local mob/entity sounds like sheep eating grass) by Kreezxil/Eleksploded, not a Better Nether rebrand. The actual Better Nether content described above ships in better-nether-9.0.10.jar (mod id betternether, GitHub quiqueck/BetterNether) — the two jars are entirely separate, unrelated mods. See Bad Wither No Cookie Reloaded for that other mod’s own note.

Anticipated questions

Q: What does Better Nether do? A: It’s a full worldgen overhaul of the Nether — the counterpart to Better End — replacing the vanilla wastes-and-basalt-deltas monotony with 24 distinct biomes like Wart Forest, Nether Jungle, Magma Land, Soul Plain, and the Upside Down Forest.

Q: Does it add new mobs? A: Yes — seven, including the Firefly, Flying Pig, Hydrogen Jellyfish, Jungle Skeleton, Naga (with its own projectile), and a wandering Skull, giving the Nether real fauna beyond piglins and ghasts.

Q: Is the bwncr jar in the pack part of Better Nether? A: No — despite the similar name, bwncr-fabric-1.20.1-3.17.2.jar is “Bad Wither No Cookie Reloaded,” an unrelated sound-silencing utility. Better Nether’s actual content ships in better-nether-9.0.10.jar. See Bad Wither No Cookie Reloaded.
