Better End
Better End (originally by paulevs, now co-maintained with Quiqueck/Bulldog83; better-end-4.0.11.jar, mod id betterend) turns the vanilla End from a flat chorus-fruit island around a dragon fight into a fully biome-diverse dimension. It adds 29 distinct biomes, ranging from lush to hostile to purely decorative-cave variants: Amber Land, Blossoming Spires, Chorus Forest, Crystal Mountains, Dragon Graveyards, Dry Shrubland, Dust Wastelands, Eterial Grove, Foggy Mushroomland, Glowing Grasslands, Ice Starfield, Lantern Woods, Megalake and Megalake Grove, Neon Oasis, Nightshade Redwoods, Old Bulbis Gardens, Painted Mountains, Shadow Forest, Sulfur Springs, Umbra Valley, Umbrella Jungle, plus several underground-only cave biomes (Empty/Lush Aurora Cave, Empty/Lush Smaragdant Cave, Jade Cave, Empty End Cave). There’s even a meta-achievement for visiting every one of them (“Visit all BetterEnd Biomes”).
Population-wise it introduces six new mobs: the Cubozoa (a floating jellyfish-like creature), Dragonfly, End Fish, End Slime, Shadow Walker, and Silk Moth — giving the End actual ambient wildlife and threats beyond endermen and the dragon. Combined with new plants, terrain generation, and building materials unique to each biome, Better End is effectively a full worldgen overhaul mod rather than a small content add-on, which is why several smaller mods in this category (BetterEnd Crashed Ships, Eldritch End) are built as direct extensions on top of it.
Anticipated questions
Q: What does Better End change about the End? A: It overhauls the flat vanilla End into a fully biome-diverse dimension with 29 distinct biomes — from lush regions like Foggy Mushroomland and Glowing Grasslands to hostile ones and underground-only cave biomes — plus new plants, terrain generation, and per-biome building materials.
Q: Are there new creatures out there? A: Yes — six new mobs: the Cubozoa (a floating jellyfish), Dragonfly, End Fish, End Slime, Shadow Walker, and Silk Moth, giving the End ambient wildlife and threats beyond endermen and the dragon.
Q: Is there any reward for exploring all the biomes? A: Yes — there’s a meta-achievement, “Visit all BetterEnd Biomes,” for reaching every one of them.
Q: Should I gear up before heading out there? A: It’s not purely scenic — Better End adds threat mobs like the Shadow Walker on top of the usual endermen and the dragon fight, so bring combat gear; see Progression & Level Caps.
