Simply Swords
Simply Swords adds 15+ weapon types plus a Runic Powers system (powers slotted into weapon sockets) and a large roster of Unique weapons. This chapter is mostly about discovering uniques and learning the socket/runic workflow. See Core RPG & Combat Mods.
Runic Powers workflow
- Sockets — Uniques and runic gear have sockets that hold Runic Powers.
- Empowered Remnant — created by melting down a unique weapon. It’s the key ingredient for the two runic gems (flagged in-quest as “a pain to make”).
- Runefused Gem — combine a Runic Tablet + an Empowered Remnant in a Smithing Table, then click to identify the power you rolled.
- Netherfused Gem — combine an Empowered Remnant + a Netherite Ingot in a Smithing Table.
- Runic Gear — to make socketed runic gear you need a Runic Tablet + a Netherite weapon; also keep a Contained Remnant on you while exploring.
Collecting Uniques
Unique weapons drop from strong enemies. The chapter’s “old book” gives approximate drop chances:

The Wither and the Ender Dragon are specifically called out as possible sources, and other strong enemies may still carry one.
Notable weapons & rewards
- Relic tiers — the questline funnels toward powerful relics: Dormant → Righteous / Tainted, plus Sunfire (pure light), Harbinger (death), and the Brimstone Claymore (“to slay a Dragon”).
- Lichblade line — a multi-stage weapon: Slumbering Lichblade → Waking Lichblade → Awakened Lichblade (fed by kills until it reaches full potential). The Awakened Lichblade is a component for the Frostmourne artifact.
- Molten Edge — a lava blade used to forge artifact weapons in the Artifact Reforging chapter.
- Dozens of flavor-rich uniques (Storm’s Edge, Stormbringer, Soulrender, Soulpyre, Frostfall, Mjolnir, Thunderbrand, Caelestis, etc.), each with distinct abilities — check tooltips/EMI for exact stats.

Anticipated questions
- How do I get my first Unique? Kill strong bosses — Obsidilith (40%) and the Ender Dragon (35%) are the best odds. You may already have one from a boss you’ve fought.
- What do sockets do? They hold Runic Powers rolled via Runefused/Netherfused Gems for extra weapon effects.
- Why melt a unique? To get an Empowered Remnant, the base for both runic gems.
- How do I “wake” the Lichblade? Keep killing with it — it progresses Slumbering → Waking → Awakened toward full potential.
