The Nether
A dimension chapter that reworks the Nether via Better Nether and adds new bosses, structures, and ores. You tackle it in parallel with the mid-game Void’s Invasion bosses (the Nether Gauntlet, Blackstone Golem, and Decaying King all live here). It also feeds later progression: Pyrite for reforging, plus materials for tech and Death Knight builds. Structures and mobs here are from Dimensions & Space Travel Mods and Exploration, Dungeons & Structures Mods.
Walkthrough
- Enter the Nether — The entry quest.
- Lesser bosses / mobs — Kill a Blaze Guardian (near Blaze spawners in fortresses / Nether Wastes), a Necromancer (fortresses), Withered Demons (Crimson Forest — smelt their hearts into Demonite Chunks to re-summon the Decaying King), and the Soul Reaper (Soul Sand Valley, rides The Nightmare).
- The Blackstone Golem’s Ritual — Build a 9×9 vanilla Blackstone platform; the Polished Blackstone holders sit one block out from each side, on the same level as the platform. Collect 4 Gilded Blackstone Shards (Piglin Brutes in Bastions are a good source) and place one on each holder to summon it. (This is also a Main Story herald.)
- The Decaying King — Spawns in the remnants of the Decaying Kingdom (any Nether biome). Use a Moonstone Compass to locate it. Drops the Darkin Blade, a Lord Soul, and the Withered Demon Heart. Can alternatively be summoned via Demon Chunks on a Moonstone Altar.
- Nether Gauntlet — Explore near lava level to find the Gauntlet Arena; shatter its eye. (Main Story herald, Rec. Lv 15.)
- Structures to visit — Nether City (in lava lakes; Netherite blocks in chests/drawers — very dangerous), Black Spiral (many Piglins and loot; dig down into the towers), Nether Fortress, Bastion Remnant, Ghast Hive, the Citadel, Nether Pyramid, Wither Tomb, and the Nether Jungle. A “visit all biomes” quest (“A very hot Vacation”) caps the tour.
- Mob-kill quests — Piglins, Piglin Brutes, Wither Skeletons, Blazes, plus Bone Llamas / Naga as flavor.
- Ores — Pyrite (essential for reforging items up tiers — mine lots), Cinnabar (for engineers/network designers), Lapis (limited here), Nether Ruby (nostalgic warm-to-the-touch material), Sphalerite (zinc + sulfur), Cincinnasite (iron-like with special uses), plus Ruby/Sapphire gems (Sapphire is the tank’s friend — reflect aura).
- Blood Trinkets — Found in Bastion Remnants; vital for Blood/tank Death Knights (see New Mechanics).
- Endgame tech quests — “Tap the Mantle” for an infinite Lava source, and moving lava to the Overworld via an AE2 Quantum Ring + Hose Pulley + Storage Bus setup (see Tech & Automation Mods).
Tips
- Don’t hand-mine for Netherite for hours — the chapter explicitly says to loot Nether Cities and Black Spirals, or use tech (Tech Reborn compressor overclocks, UU Matter) for near-infinite Netherite.
- Farm Pyrite heavily; you’ll want it constantly for reforging.
- Bastion Piglin Brutes are your reliable source of Gilded Blackstone Shards for the Golem ritual.

Anticipated questions
- Best way to get Netherite? Loot Nether Cities and Black Spirals, or use tech multiplication — not hours of hand-mining.
- What’s Pyrite for? Reforging items to higher tiers; mine as much as you can.
- How do I summon the Blackstone Golem? 9×9 Blackstone platform, Polished Blackstone holders one block out per side, a Gilded Blackstone Shard on each (4 total).
- How do I re-fight the Decaying King? Kill Withered Demons, smelt hearts into Demonite/Demon Chunks, and use one on a Moonstone Altar (or find the Decaying Kingdom via Moonstone Compass).
