New Player Roadmap

A concrete, ordered checklist for your first ~10 hours, grounded in the Getting Started and New Mechanics quest chapters. The single golden rule underneath all of it: open the Quest Book (book icon, top-left of inventory) and let it lead — this list is the spine, the Quest Book is the detail. You’re capped at level 10 until you beat your first Void’s Invasion boss, so there’s no rush to over-optimize early.

Hour 0–1: Land, eat, orient

  1. Open the Quest Book and read the First Steps / How To: Questing! quests. Left = tasks, right = rewards. (Getting Started chapter.)
  2. Eat something — grab a fruit or vegetable. Hunger drains faster than vanilla and food gives real buffs. See Food, Farming & Cooking Mods.
  3. Learn EMI — click items in the right-hand list, or hover and press R (recipe) / U (uses). This answers almost every “how do I make X” from here on. See Quality-of-Life & UI Mods.
  4. Craft a Chest, then upgrade it: mine copper and use a Blank Chest Upgrade to make a copper upgrade. Storage is its own progression track. See Storage & Inventory Mods.

Hour 1–2: Kit out and secure a base

  1. Get a Traveler’s Backpack — equip it, open with B, and search @traveler in EMI to see variants. Big early inventory boost. See Storage & Inventory Mods.
  2. Claim your base: press M for the world map, right-click a chunk, choose “Claim Selected.” You get up to 500 chunks — claim what your base needs. See Common Problems & Fixes.
  3. Multiplayer: form a party now — /openpac-parties create, then /openpac-parties member invite [Name]. Shared quest progress and teleports depend on it. See Getting Started.

Hour 2–3: Fast travel and the map

  1. Find or craft a Waystone, right-click to bind it. This is your fast-travel anchor — keep a little vanilla XP on hand, since teleports cost 1 XP level. See Common Problems & Fixes.
  2. Set up navigation — Xaero’s minimap is already running; press M for the full map and drop waypoints at your base and each Waystone. See Quality-of-Life & UI Mods.

Hour 3–5: Learn the combat systems

  1. Work through the New Mechanics chapter — it’s the in-game combat tutorial and the most important reading in the pack. Cover:
    • Better Combat — weapons have movesets, hold to attack, consecutive hits combo. See Combat & Stats.
    • Combat Roll — bind the dodge; it costs stamina and gives i-frames.
    • Shield Overhaul — bash while blocking to stun normal enemies for 1 second (not bosses).
  2. Learn the stats from the same chapter: Physical Damage, Armor & Toughness (Toughness is the “anti one-shot” stat), Health & Stamina, and Haste (attack/cast speed — huge for almost everyone). See Combat & Stats.
  3. Open the Talent Tree (N) — you earn 1 point every 2 levels. Spend early points as they come; nothing’s permanent (a Knowledge Scroll fully respecs you). See Talent Tree & Fate Talents.

Hour 5–7: Pick a direction and gear toward it

  1. Choose a rough archetype using the New Mechanics build guides (Tier I): Protector/Tank, Warrior, Rogue, Ranger, Mage, Healer, Spellblade, or Death Knight. Each guide names the gear and stats to chase. See Archetypes & Builds.
  2. Start collecting your damage family’s runes — Elemental (Arcane/Fire/Frost/Lightning), Primordial (Healing/Soul), or Decaying (Blood/Unholy). Commit to one family. See Damage Types & Runes.
  3. If you’re a caster: build a Spell Binding Table and surround it with bookshelves (18 for all four spell slots) to make your first spellbook. See Magic & Spells Mods.

Hour 7–9: Reforge and prepare for the first boss

  1. Get an Anvil and learn Reforging (second tab): Base Material (left) + your item (middle) + Limestone Chunk (right) to roll better rarity. Craft Limestone Chunks from 4× Limestone or Diorite. Reforge your main weapon and armor up. See Gear Rarity & Reforging.
  2. Optionally start enchanting — an Enchanting Table plus special shelves (Seashelves/Hellshelves). Keep Quanta low, manage Arcana. This can wait if you’re eager to fight. See Accessories & Enchanting.
  3. Push toward level 10 by fighting, and read your target boss’s quest for its recommended level and how to find it.

Hour 9–10: Break the first level cap

  1. Beat your first Void’s Invasion boss to unlock levels 11–50 — the two entry bosses are both recommended level 10:
    • The Decaying King (Nether, melee-friendly) — locate the Decaying Kingdom with a Moonstone Compass.
    • The Night Lich (Overworld cold biomes, ranged/magic-friendly) — use 4+ Soul Stars (dropped by undead) to find its tower. Gear up and hit the recommended level first — under-leveling means you deal 10% less damage per level below the boss. See Progression & Level Caps.
  2. From here the game opens up: commit to your Fate Talent, start reforging with Pyrite Chunks, and pick a parallel tech or magic track. Follow the Main Story / Hasturian Era chapters for the campaign. See Progression & Level Caps.
