Archetypes & Builds

There’s no hard class lock in Prominence II — you build a class out of talents, gear, and weapon type. Pick a rough direction and commit your gear and runes toward it. Nothing is permanent: a Knowledge Scroll respecs you any time.

The New Mechanics quest chapter contains full build guides organized as Tier I → IV, each telling you the next armor set, weapon, stat priority, Fate Talent and endgame artifact for that build. Everything below is grounded in those guides — always open the in-game guide for your build for the exact next step.

How to think about stats

Every build is really a stat priority. Match your gear affixes, runes and talents to the 1–2 stats that matter for you (see Combat & Stats):

  • Melee DPS (Rogue): Haste, then Physical Damage.
  • Melee Burst (Warrior): Physical Damage.
  • Ranged (Ranger): Ranged Damage, then Draw Speed.
  • Mage: the element’s spell power + Spell Crit/Haste.
  • Tank: Max Health + Armor/Toughness.
  • Healer: Holy Power.

Mage (Elemental)

Powered by the Wizards (RPG Series) mod and Spell Engine. A Mage deals ranged damage with spells cast from a Spell Book (see spell books). Start with a Wizard Staff (or an element-specific staff) + Wizard Robes.

  • Fire (Easy) — high constant damage, no utility. Priority Crit Chance (crits as often as possible), then Crit Damage. Fate: Fire Archmage.
  • Frost (Easy/Medium) — moderate damage + utility (slows enemies). Priority Spell Haste; Crit Chance/Damage secondary. Fate: Frost Archmage.
  • Arcane (Easy) — burstiest; slow, hard-hitting spells. Priority Crit Damage, then Crit Chance. Fate: Arcane Archmage.
  • Elemental Wizard (Hard) — uses all three schools; more versatile but weaker single-target. Path toward Astral.
  • Runic Invocations / Astral Magic (Hard) — true endgame; blends all three schools via Astral Power. Strongest, hardest to pilot. Fate: Knowledge of Runes and Stars.
  • Endgame weapon: Ekavar, the Great Cinderstone Staff, which evolves via its upgrade tree into Arcane/Fire/Frost/Holy/Astral versions.

Rogue

Powered by Rogues & Warriors (RPG Series). Fast, one-handed, dual-wieldable weapons; the “DPS” (constant damage) class. Stat priority: Haste, then Physical Damage.

  • Assassin / Haste Rogue — the Assassin set gives +5% Haste per piece; upgrade later to the Souldancer set (highest Haste of its tier). Fate: Shadow Techniques.
  • Monk — fist-weapon variant (e.g. Fist of Fury), endgame artifact Fury of a Thousand Fists.
  • Swordsman Rogue — endgame artifact Ash’edar.

Warrior (melee burst)

Powered by Rogues & Warriors (RPG Series). Swings slow but hard — the “Burst” class (high damage, not constant). Priority: Physical Damage.

  • Endgame armor Titan’s Shroud (highest Physical Damage stat); endgame artifact Thunderwrath, which synergizes with the Warrior’s Devotion Fate. Alternative Hero’s Armor grants Lightning Power for certain Thunderwrath upgrades.

Ranger (ranged)

Powered by Archers (RPG Series) + Archers Expansion. Priority: Ranged Damage, then Draw Speed. Note rangers are squishier — keep your distance.

  • DPS route: Shortbows / Rapid Crossbows — low draw speed, high sustained DPS.
  • Burst route: Longbows / Heavy Crossbows — high per-shot. Veiled Crossbow is the middle ground.
  • Wear Ranger Armor for the best Ranged Damage. Fate: Sin’dorei Heritage.
  • Upgrade path: kill a Mutant Skeleton for its chestplate → Crystal Longbow / Ruby Heavy Crossbow → the Orion artifact bow (the only bow artifact), which pairs with the Mintaka’s Fright / Alnilam’s Sight / Alnitak’s Might spell books.

Paladin / Holy & Healer

Powered by Paladins & Priests (RPG Series).

  • Healer (Medium/Hard) — priority Holy Power; cast heals from the Holy Book. Damage is low; add some Max Health/Movement Speed for survival. Upgrade the Holy Staff, then the Prior set (boosts holy power by a percentage).
  • Paladin — a Warrior + Priest protector; uses Oaths (Defiance/Vengeance are defensive playstyle choices). Endgame artifact Apophis (the Divine Hand), with an oath of Protection (defensive) or Healing (offensive) branch.
  • Bard (Medium/Hard) — a support sub-path. Requires the A Bard’s Tale Fate, plays instruments (flute, bagpipe, lute, trumpet, etc.) to buff party members (you must be partied). Bards have no fixed gear — mix with any build (archery, mage, healer).

Spellblade

Powered by Spellblade Next. Hybrid melee + magic — wears Runic armor sets, uses spellblade Techniques spellbooks alongside an elemental blade. Priority: a mix of Physical Damage + your chosen element. Fate: your element’s Archmage, or Shadow Techniques if you attack more than you cast. Endgame armor Magus set (level ~50, from the Magus boss) or Mageseeker Hat for crit; artifacts A’zhar (Soulfire), Ash’edar (Fire & Arcane), Frostmourne (Frost), or Supernova (Astral). Ash’edar path.

Death Knight

A darker, dark-magic-and-melee hybrid inspired by World of Warcraft, added by the Death Knights mod. Weapons are Runeblades (they carry all three DK powers). Three specs:

  • Frost (DPS) — one-handed Runeblades + Frozen Champion armor.
  • Unholy (Burst/AoE) — two-handed Great Runeblades + Plaguebringer armor; loves the Decaying Devotion Fate.
  • Blood (Tank) — self-sustain via the Tome of Vampiric Knowledge + Crimson Knight armor. (Go the Protector’s path if you want pure tanking.)
  • Shared endgame artifact: Frostmourne, purpose-built for Death Knights.

Tank / Protector

Priority: Max Health + Armor + Toughness; damage is deliberately mediocre. Fate: S’kellak’s Blessing. Taunt with Bone Armor, or take Righteous Hammers for a DPS lean.

  • Armor ladder: Diamond → Netherite → Netherite-Diamond → Sapphire (less raw armor but +20 Max Health per piece and a damage-reflect passive, ~30% less damage taken).
  • Endgame artifacts: Vaazkar (tank shield), Fyr’alath (soulfire bruiser), Frostmourne (Death Knight sustain).

Guns (side-grade)

From Marium’s Soulslike Weaponry — a ranged side-grade: Gatling Gun (spins up, decent DPS, slows you), Hunter Cannon (highest single-target, long cooldown), Blunderbuss (3 fast projectiles, high velocity), Hunter Pistol (fast, low commitment).

Common mistakes

  • Mixing stat priorities. A Rogue stacking Physical Damage over Haste, or a mage ignoring its element’s key stat, underperforms badly.
  • Wrong Fate for your gear. Follow the table in Talent Tree & Fate Talents.
  • Skipping the in-game build guide. Each Tier quest hands you the exact next armor/weapon — don’t guess.
  • Playing Bard without the Fate or a party. Its buffs literally require both.

Anticipated questions

Is there a class system? No hard classes — you build a role from talents + gear + weapon type, and can respec with a Knowledge Scroll.

What’s the easiest build for a new player? Fire Mage, Ranger, or a Tank are all rated Easy in the build guides. Fast Rogue is rewarding but Medium.

Best DPS vs best burst melee? Rogue = constant DPS (stack Haste); Warrior = burst (stack Physical Damage).

Which armor set for my build? Assassin/Souldancer (Rogue), Ranger Armor (Ranger), Titan’s Shroud (Warrior), Sapphire (Tank), Prior (Healer), Magus/Runic (Spellblade), Plaguebringer/Frozen Champion/Crimson (Death Knight). Your Tier guide names the exact next one.

What’s the strongest mage path? Runic/Astral (Knowledge of Runes and Stars + Ekavar), but it’s the hardest to play.

Can I be a hybrid? Yes — Spellblade (melee+magic) and Bard (support+anything) are built-in hybrids.

How do I get an artifact weapon for my build? Forge one at S’kellak’s Forge using the Molten Core (unlocked in Void’s Invasion Chapter I). See Accessories & Enchanting.

Do I have to follow the “recommended” build exactly? No — they’re guides, not rules. But matching stat priority + Fate + armor + rune family is what makes a build actually strong.
