Quick Answers FAQ
Short, direct answers to the questions this group actually asks. Each links to the deep note. When something is a general rule rather than an exact pack value, it says so — for precise numbers always trust the in-game Quest Book, EMI (the recipe viewer), and rpg.prominence.wiki.
Getting Started
What am I supposed to be doing?
You’re a flameborn sent by S’kellak to the Overworld. Follow the Main Story / Hasturian Era quest chapters for the campaign; everything else is opt-in. See Getting Started.
How do I open the Quest Book?
Click the book icon at the top-left of your inventory. Left side of a quest = tasks to do, right side = rewards. See Getting Started.
How do I see a recipe or what an item’s used for?
Open EMI (item list on the right of your inventory), or hover an item and press R for its recipe / U for its uses. See Quality-of-Life & UI Mods.
What should I do in the first hour?
Eat well, craft and upgrade a chest, grab a backpack, find a Waystone, and open the Quest Book. Full ordered list: New Player Roadmap.
How do I use my backpack?
Equip it from its menu, then press B to open it. Search @traveler in EMI to see all variants; better backpacks are found in loot chests. See Storage & Inventory Mods.
Leveling & Caps
How do I level up?
Fight things. Your character level (top-left of inventory) rises from combat. The green vanilla XP bar is separate and mostly matters for enchanting.
I’m capped and can’t level anymore, is that a bug?
No — you’ve hit a campaign level cap. Beat the first Void’s Invasion boss to unlock 11–50, or start the Hasturian Era campaign to unlock 51–65. 65 is the current max. See Progression & Level Caps.
What unlocks each level bracket?
1–10 from the start; 11–50 by defeating the first Void’s Invasion boss (the Decaying King or the Night Lich, both recommended level 10); 51–65 by starting the Hasturian Era campaign. See Progression & Level Caps.
Does the vanilla XP bar make me stronger?
No. It’s only for enchanting, anvil work, and paying the Waystone teleport cost. Your real power comes from character level, talents, and gear. See Combat & Stats.
Builds & Archetypes
How do I even pick a class?
There isn’t one to “pick” formally — you build one out of talents, gear, and weapon type. See Archetypes & Builds.
What are the main builds?
Protector/Tank, Warrior (burst melee), Rogue (fast DPS), Ranger (ranged), Mage (Fire/Frost/Arcane), Healer/Bard, Spellblade, and Death Knight. The New Mechanics quest chapter has a Tier I–IV guide for each. See Archetypes & Builds.
Which build is easiest to start?
The build guides rate Warrior, Fire Mage, Ranger DPS, and Tank as Easy; Rogue and Spellblade lean Medium/Hard. Pick by playstyle, not just difficulty. See Archetypes & Builds.
Can I change my build later?
Yes — a Knowledge Scroll fully respecs you and refunds every talent point, any time. Gear and runes you can just swap. See Talent Tree & Fate Talents.
How do I get talent points?
1 point every 2 character levels. Press N to open the tree and spend them. See Talent Tree & Fate Talents.
What’s a Fate Talent?
A big keystone pick near the top of the tree, unlocked at level thresholds — it defines your build (e.g. Frost Archmage, Shadow Techniques, Sin’dorei Heritage, S’kellak’s Blessing). Take the one matching your archetype. See Talent Tree & Fate Talents.
Combat
Why does combat feel different?
Better Combat gives every weapon its own moveset — consecutive swings combo, and you can hold the attack button to keep attacking. See Combat & Stats.
How do I dodge?
Bind and spam the Combat Roll dodge; it uses stamina and gives you i-frames out of attacks. See Combat & Stats.
What does blocking with a shield do now?
Shields use the Shield Overhaul — a bash attack while blocking stuns the target for 1 second (bosses are immune to the stun). See Combat & Stats.
A boss keeps one-shotting me — what am I doing wrong?
You’re almost certainly under the boss’s recommended level. You deal 10% less damage per level you’re below it (5 levels under = only 50% damage), and it hits far harder than you’re geared for. Level up and gear up first. See Common Problems & Fixes.
How do I heal?
Keep yourself fed for natural regen; drink healing potions; run with a Healer build (Holy Power via the Holy Book/Staff — see Archetypes & Builds); or use life-steal gear/affixes. Tanks survive by stacking Max Health + Armor rather than out-healing. See Combat & Stats.
Gear, Reforging & Enchanting
How do I make my gear better?
Reforge it at an Anvil, and pick up matching rings, necklaces, artifacts, and your archetype’s armor set. See Gear Rarity & Reforging and Accessories & Enchanting.
How does reforging work?
Anvil → Reforging tab, three slots: Base Material (left, item-specific — hover the reforge button to see what it needs), the item (middle), and a Reforge Material (right). See Gear Rarity & Reforging.
Which reforge material do I use?
Limestone Chunk (Overworld, Common→Epic) early, Pyrite Chunk (Nether, Uncommon→Legendary) mid-game, Galena Chunk (End, Rare→Mythic) for your best gear. See Gear Rarity & Reforging.
Can I improve my reforge odds?
Yes — stack Luck (luck trinkets, luck potions, wine) to raise your chance at higher qualities. (Exact percentages aren’t published in-quest — general rule.) See Gear Rarity & Reforging.
What’s the rarity ladder?
Common → Uncommon → Rare → Epic → Legendary → Mythic. Higher rarity = better stats and affixes. See Gear Rarity & Reforging.
How does enchanting work here?
An Enchanting Table shows three bars: Eterna (table level / cost — needed XP is roughly 2× Eterna), Quanta (randomness — don’t max it), Arcana (rarity/number of enchants — lower it if you want specific ones like Protection). Power it with special bookshelves (Seashelves/Hellshelves and their upgrades), not just vanilla shelves. See Accessories & Enchanting.
Why should I bother with accessories?
Rings, necklaces (RPG jewelry), and artifacts add real passive power tuned to your archetype. Artifacts are uncraftable exploration drops worth detouring for. See Accessories & Enchanting.
What are the best enchantments?
For armor, Protection is the staple — note you may need to lower your enchanting table’s Arcana to roll it (high Arcana blocks Protection and class enchants like Sunfire). Match class enchants to your build, and build the Seashelf/Hellshelf/Endshelf setup for high-level enchants. Full method in Accessories & Enchanting.
Magic
How do I cast spells?
Get a spell book or staff (see the Spell Books quest chapter), bind spells to slots, and cast. Build spell power/haste plus the matching elemental runes to hit harder. See Magic & Spells Mods.
How do I make my first spellbook?
Build a Spell Binding Table and surround it with bookshelves like an Enchanting Table — 18 bookshelves unlocks all four spell slots. It also attaches spells to any-tier spellbook. See Magic & Spells Mods.
Does a higher-tier spellbook mean it’s stronger?
No — a higher tier just means it’s obtained a different way and is more complex to master, not automatically more powerful. See Archetypes & Builds.
What are the three magic families?
Elemental (Arcane/Fire/Frost/Lightning), Primordial (Holy/Soul), and Decaying (Blood/Unholy, from Death Knights). Building around one family beats spreading thin. See Damage Types & Runes.
What’s Astral Power?
The endgame hybrid that combines Arcane + Fire + Frost, used by Astral Mages/Spellblades and artifacts like Supernova. Take the Knowledge of Runes and Stars Fate. See Archetypes & Builds.
Tech & Storage
How do I auto-sort my storage?
The pack’s real answer is Applied Energistics 2 (a digital ME network). There’s no auto-sorting-chests mod; AE2’s Storage Bus + filters is the closest. See Tech & Automation Mods and Storage & Inventory Mods.
Which tech mod should I pick?
Any of Create, Tech Reborn, Modern Industrialization, or Powah! — each has its own quest chapter. Specialize in one or two rather than dabbling in all. See Tech & Automation Mods.
My Create water wheel isn’t turning — why?
It only generates power under genuinely flowing water, not a still pool. See Common Problems & Fixes.
When should I start tech?
It’s a parallel mid-game track (levels 11–50), not a first-hour priority. See Progression & Level Caps.
Exploration & Structures
How do I find a specific structure or biome?
Use Explorer’s Compass (structures) or Nature’s Compass (biomes) before a long walk. See Exploration, Dungeons & Structures Mods.
Is loot shared if a friend opens the chest first?
No — Lootr gives every player their own copy of loot-chest contents, so nobody misses out. See Storage & Inventory Mods.
How do I locate a story boss?
Each boss quest tells you exactly how — e.g. Soul Stars point to the Night Lich’s tower, a Moonstone Compass finds the Decaying Kingdom. Read the quest description. See Progression & Level Caps.
Dimensions & Space
How do I get to the Nether / End?
They work like a heavily overhauled vanilla (Better Nether, Better End). The End portal needs 12 of 16 unique eyes scattered across the Overworld and Nether. See Dimensions & Space Travel Mods.
How do I get to space?
Ad Astra rockets need real tech progression first — follow the Planets & Space quest chapter. It’s an endgame goal. See Dimensions & Space Travel Mods.
What are all these other dimensions?
The Otherside (Deeper and Darker), The Bumblezone (bees), Eldritch End, and the story’s Primordial Abyss / Hasturian Wastes. See Dimensions & Space Travel Mods.
Bosses
What are the story bosses and their recommended levels?
Void’s Invasion: Decaying King (10), Night Lich (10), Gauntlet (15), Ender Dragon “Jean” (20), Blackstone Golem (25), Conjunctivius (30), Old Champion’s Remains (35), Obsidilith (40), Eldritch Eye (50). Hasturian Era bosses (Baphomet, Fallen Icon, Ghost of Cornelia, Magus, Null, The Faceless One) are all recommended level 50. See Progression & Level Caps.
What’s the recommended level actually mean?
Bosses have their own level. Being under it means you deal much less damage (−10% per level below) and take more — it’s the difference between a fight and a wall. See Combat & Stats.
What are Mythic Challenges?
Endgame scaling nightmares unlocked after beating Null, summoned with a Void Hourglass. Each win gives a higher-level hourglass; dying fails the challenge and drops you to a lower one. See Progression & Level Caps.
Farming & Food
Does food matter more than vanilla?
Yes — hunger drains faster and cooked food gives real stat buffs, so cook early. Croptopia and Farmer’s Delight add the depth. See Food, Farming & Cooking Mods.
What raises my Stamina/energy?
The Stamina stat reduces how fast you lose energy (hunger) passively; good food keeps it topped up for dodging and abilities. See Combat & Stats.
Travel & Waystones
How do I fast travel?
Waystones. Find one in a village or craft one, right-click to bind it, then teleport back later. See Getting Started.
Does teleporting cost anything?
Yes — Waystone teleports cost 1 XP level by default in this install (local void-teleport is free). Keep a little vanilla XP on hand. See Common Problems & Fixes.
How do I read the map / set waypoints?
Press M for Xaero’s full-screen World Map; the minimap sits in the corner. See Quality-of-Life & UI Mods.
How do I fly?
Flight comes from Icarus wings (worn in a Trinkets back slot — unlimited durability, but flight cuts off once your hunger drops below ~3 food, and heavy armor slows it), a vanilla elytra, or tech jetpacks (Ad Astra / Modern Industrialization / Create-era gear). The server has allow-flight on, so these won’t kick you. See Fast Travel & Waystones and Icarus.
How do I get diamonds or good ores fast?
Mine at deepslate depth, raid YUNG’s Better Mineshafts and dungeon loot, or trade for them. Ore-doubling via tech mods stretches what you find.
Death & Recovery
What happens when I die — do I lose everything?
The server isn’t hardcore and keep-inventory is off, so your items drop — but You’re in Grave Danger marks a grave at your death spot holding your stuff. Go back and reclaim it. See Common Problems & Fixes.
How do I find where I died?
Check your death coordinates / the grave marker, and use the map (M) to navigate back before the area despawns your grave. See Quality-of-Life & UI Mods.
Multiplayer & Server
How do I claim my land?
Press M, right-click a chunk on the map, and choose “Claim Selected.” You can claim up to 500 chunks. See Common Problems & Fixes.
How do I make or join a party?
/openpac-parties create, then /openpac-parties member invite [Name]. For PvP between members, everyone runs /opacpvp. See Getting Started.
Why do I need a party?
So quest progress and teleports work together, Bard buffs reach allies, and claims can be shared. See Getting Started.
Troubleshooting — “Why can’t I…?”
Why do I keep timing out, disconnecting, or getting kicked / lagging out?
It’s almost always our free tunnel, not the server or your internet — it bounces between datacenters every minute or two and each bounce briefly drops the connection (“Lost connection: Timed out”). The server keeps running fine the whole time; just reconnect and you’re back where you were. Full explanation and the other connection fixes: Troubleshooting Connection.
Why is my ability greyed out?
Usually you’re under the required level, out of the resource it needs, or it’s on cooldown. See Common Problems & Fixes.
Why won’t my Waystone bind / teleport?
It may be undiscovered, or you don’t have the 1 XP level for the teleport. See Common Problems & Fixes.
Why can’t I claim this chunk?
You’ve hit the 500-chunk limit, it’s already claimed, or you’re out of claim range. See Common Problems & Fixes.
Why can’t I reforge this item?
Only tools, weapons, and armor are reforgable, and you need the correct base + reforge material. See Common Problems & Fixes.
Where do I go if this vault doesn’t cover something?
The in-game Quest Book first, then rpg.prominence.wiki. Both go far deeper than any written guide. Common issues are collected in Common Problems & Fixes.
